Adventuring our way around Europe

It's official folks, we have less than a month left in Edinburgh and then we will be venturing off to travel around Europe before we head back to San Diego. Yes, we are still in shock. Until Christopher finishes his dissertation in a few weeks I don't think it will truly hit us. And when it does, you know we will be bawling like little babies because Edinburgh is one of the most amazing cities in the world and we are truly going to miss it.

So to cheer us up so we don't focus on our upcoming goodbyes, I decided I'd share with you a little about our travel plans! We leave in early September to travel to 8 different cities in Europe over the course of one month. We know it will be slightly jam-packed but we are so excited and can't wait for our upcoming adventures! (Also, to answer your question, yes, we are crazy)

We start off by flying to Berlin for a few days and then taking the train to Rome.

Then we'll pack our bags up and take the train north through Italy to Florence and Milan. (Fun fact: we'll be in Milan 2 days before fashion week! Kind of glad we won't be there during fashion week as I've heard it's packed!).

Then we'll hop on a plain and explore Barcelona and Madrid. We've seen lots of southern Spain so we're excited to finally set foot in northern Spain.

Once we've eaten our way through Spain, we'll jump on a plane and head to Paris for several days. Then on to London via train to catch our plane to America!

Once we set foot on American soil we'll be staying in DC for a few days with my lovely grandparents. We're hoping our little east coast stopover will help with the crazy jet lag we are sure to feel once we reach the west coast! Then sometime early October we'll hope our last plane trip landing in beautiful sunny amazingly awesome San Diego. Yes, after over one year away, we will finally be back in dear 'ole San Diego. We are so looking forward to seeing our family and friends and, frankly, we can't wait to stuff our faces with Mexican food!

Throughout our European Adventure (still working on coming up with an awesome trip name) we'll be staying in Airbnb apartments. I've talked about Airbnb several times on our blog (here, here, and here) and we've had nothing but good experiences with them so we're excited to use them again, this time in several different locales. From rooms in Barcelona and Madrid with amazing terraces looking out over cobblestone streets to a hip apartment in Berlin, we're excited to live like the Romans instead of staying in a generic hotel somewhere.

We'll be sure to keep you updated on all our travels. Check in tomorrow for some tips and programs I use to help me set up this whirlwind trip (and scheduling nightmare!).

  3. Holy smokes, that sounds like an amazing journey! I can't say enough wonderful things about Barcelona: Segrada Familia, Parque Guell, Castel Montjuic, Font Magica are all definitely worth a visit. One of my favorite old Catalan restaurants, Can Culleretes is right off Las Ramblas: http://www.culleretes.com/.. Oh man, I'm getting Spain-sick just thinking about their cannelloni (so good).. Rome? All the obvious ones for sure, but try to spend some time in the Travastere district if you can - some of the best food and boutique cobblestone strolling in town is there, in my opinion.. :) Bon voyages!
